Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to have my RPZ (backflow device) certified every year?

Since the soil in your landscape contains organic matter, microbes, fertilizers and other potentially harmful chemicals, the EPA mandates that all irrigation systems be equipped with an RPZ device. This device prevents the water in your sprinkler system from mixing with the water in your house, as well as with the city’s main water line. Illinois law requires that the RPZ on your irrigation system, pool, boiler, etc. is tested annually by a CCCDI licensed plumber to ensure that it is working properly. This test is mandatory – not optional – and your water will be shutoff if not done. Advanced Sprinkler Systems, Inc. has licensed professionals on staff who can test, certify and service your RPZ for you.

When should I winterize my system?

We will send a statement notification when it is time to schedule your winterization. Appointments for October get filled up by the 7th of October, and because in certain years we’ve had some early freezes, we strongly urge that you contact us quickly to ensure that your system shutdown date is early. We are not responsible for damage due to freezing. If you have a pool, please coordinate your winterization with your pool company.
